The UAE began offering an amnesty on September 1, 2024, to settle the status of overstayers. As the seventh day of the amnesty approaches, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) reports a notable turnout.
The enormous turnout is proof of the UAE’s dedication to upholding its humanitarian role, encouraging community safety, and enhancing living standards. The high degree of participation and productive partnership between partners and government agencies support these claims.
During the first seven days of operation, the GDRFA received 19,784 applications in total. A 48-hour turnaround time of 98.96% for these demonstrates the effectiveness of the work teams and digital services used.
Over 2,393 individuals visited the settlement centre in Al Aweer, Dubai during the first seven days of operation, accounting for 10.15% of all applications received in the Emirate of Dubai. This was a remarkable influx of customers.
The Al Aweer Service Centre set up a total of sixty service counters in order to expedite the receipt and processing of requests, thus minimising traffic. 86 Amer centres and digital platforms were also used to submit service requests.
