Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, says a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is only possible once he and US President Donald Trump have come to an agreement on a strategy to end the war in Ukraine. While attending the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Zelenskyy made the comments while sitting down with US Vice President JD Vance.
According to the Ukrainian leader, his nation requires additional guarantees, especially security guarantees, before a peace agreement can be reached. He also emphasised that any future peace negotiations must include Europe.
“Since Ukraine is already a part of Europe and will be a part of an equal European Union, security guarantees for Ukraine and for all of Europe are the main points of any document on the cessation or end of the war,” Zelenskyy stated.
Additionally, he stated that any agreement must be reached with Trump directly rather than through a delegation or officials. Zelenskyy stated his appreciation for previous US support, particularly during the Biden administration, and his wish for further assistance, saying he thinks the 47th US president has the key to stopping Russia’s invasion of his nation.
