India Wins its Third Champions Trophy After Defeating New Zealand in the Final

India won the third Champions Trophy trophy in Dubai on Sunday, defeating New Zealand by four wickets, with Rohit Sharma leading the chase with a scorching fifty after a spin quartet bowled wonderfully. India chased the target with six balls remaining after limiting New Zealand to a par score of 251/7.

India ended a 25-year score with New Zealand with the win. Twenty-five years ago, a low-key New Zealand team with only two senior players, Stephen Fleming and Chirs Cairns, defeated a star-studded India in the final to win the ICC Knockout. Later, the tournament was renamed the Champions Trophy before being taken off the cricket schedule for eight long years in 2017. It returned to Dubai in 2025.

In 2025, Rohit and Shubman Gill added 105 runs for the first wicket, giving India a dazzling start. At his most vicious, Rohit received a six-count. With a blitzkrieg innings of 76 off 83 balls, he set the tone for a successful chase and made it simple for the other batsmen. Santner dismissed Gill to end the partnership and force New Zealand back into the game.

A charged-up New Zealand bowling attack began after Gill’s departure. India dropped from 105/0 to 122/3 after losing three wickets in 17 runs. Latham caught Rohit off Rachin after Bracewell trapped Kohli.
