Sudan Has Reported a Deadly Kindergarten Attack

At least 50 people, including 33 children, are reportedly dead after a drone strike on a kindergarten in the town of Kalogi, in the South Kordofan area of Sudan. The Sudan Doctors’ Network, a medical organization, and the army both blamed the attack on Thursday on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary force fighting the army in Sudan’s civil war. The RSF did not immediately respond.

In response, the RSF accused the army of attacking a gasoline station at the Adre border crossing with Chad on Friday using drones in the Darfur region. Since a power battle between the RSF and the army, who were formerly partners, began in April 2023, Sudan has been devastated by war.

The foreign ministry, which is affiliated with the army, claims that the kindergarten was hit twice by drone missiles. It further said that civilians and emergency personnel who raced to the school were attacked.

A representative for the UN children’s organization Unicef responded to reports of the attack in Kalogi by saying, “Killing children in their school is a horrific violation of children’s rights.” Sheldon Yett continued, “Kids should never have to pay the price of conflict.
