Tony Wu-Pasomthong | Driving the Future of Electric Mobility Through Intelligent Battery Infrastructure

Building sustainable mobility systems requires more than technology. It requires foresight, operational discipline, and deep understanding of consumer behavior. Tony Wu-Pasomthong brings over 20 years of experience in the technology sector, positioning himself at the forefront of electric mobility innovation in Southeast Asia.

As the founder of SWITCH, he is redefining how battery-swapping ecosystems function by combining IoT intelligence, flexible payment models, and scalable infrastructure designed for real-world urban mobility.

The Early Foundations

We began by asking, “Could you share a bit about your early background, education, and the key experiences that shaped your career journey?”

“My educational background is in Technology Management, and I have spent more than two decades in the technology sector. In 2006, I founded a company focused on LED innovation, electronics, and smart lighting solutions. I spent ten years in Shenzhen during China’s technology boom, which gave me direct exposure to rapid industrial growth, manufacturing scale, and product development speed.

After China, I served as COO of a European smart city technology company for five years, managing projects across multiple cities. Europe taught me stability, large-scale project management, and financial modeling for technology systems. However, I always felt drawn back to Asia, where the pace of change allows ideas to be implemented and scaled quickly.”

The Evolution of SWITCH

Continuing the discussion, we asked, “How has your company evolved since its inception?”

“We operate with the mindset of a startup. In the early stages, we focused on tier two cities where we could test and refine our solutions in real conditions. The market responded quickly, and demand accelerated our growth.

Today, SWITCH is scaling nationwide. What began as a focused pilot strategy is now evolving into a broader rollout, bringing intelligent battery-swapping infrastructure to a much wider audience and reshaping the electric mobility landscape across the country.”

Contribution to the Regional Ecosystem

Exploring the company’s broader impact, we asked, “How does your business contribute to the ecosystem in your region?”

“Our focus has always been consumer convenience. That philosophy drove us to develop one of the most advanced IoT ecosystems in the battery swap sector. Our system integrates real-time monitoring, user-friendly access, and practical design to make electric mobility seamless.

By improving reliability and accessibility, we are helping accelerate EV adoption while supporting delivery professionals and urban commuters who depend on efficiency for daily income.”

Qualities for Success -Tony Wu-Pasomthong

Shifting to leadership, we asked, “What three qualities do you believe are critical for success in your industry?”

“In a highly competitive sector like ours, customer focus is essential. That includes vehicle performance, safety, and system reliability. Since we primarily serve professional delivery services, flexibility in financial models is also critical. We must adapt solutions to match customer realities.

Ultimately, success comes from combining customer understanding with adaptability, innovation, and strong execution.”

Innovation and Adaptation

Turning to technology, we asked, “How has your organization adapted to technological changes? Could you share a key innovation you’ve implemented?”

“In Southeast Asia, we are one of the few companies offering battery swaps charged only for the percentage of battery used. Consumers are accustomed to paying for fuel by volume, and we applied that logic to electric mobility.

In addition, we designed our system to be extremely user-friendly. Accessibility is key. Technology must simplify life, not complicate it. These innovations allow us to remain competitive in a fast-evolving market while keeping customer experience at the center.”

Navigating Industry Challenges

As the conversation deepened, we asked, “How would you guide someone navigating the challenges of establishing themselves in this industry?”

“You must always look two to three years ahead. In technology, time moves quickly, and anticipating trends is critical. Regulations can be challenging, but if managed wisely, they can become strategic advantages.

It is not always about being the biggest or the most advanced. Practicality matters. Understanding consumer needs and applying survivability strategies in a fast-moving market is what ensures long-term success.”

Final Reflection

Before concluding, we asked Tony to share a final thought for emerging technology entrepreneurs.

“The future belongs to those who combine vision with disciplined execution. Technology alone is not enough. You must understand markets, regulations, and human behavior. When those elements align, real transformation becomes possible.”

Through SWITCH, Tony Wu-Pasomthong continues to build intelligent battery infrastructure designed not only for growth, but for practical, scalable impact in Southeast Asia’s evolving mobility ecosystem.
