A court has heard that a former police officer’s “jealous infatuation” with his ex drove him to use his work gun to murder a Sydney couple. The 31-year-old Beaumont Lamarre-Condon has entered a not guilty plea to two charges of murder linked to domestic abuse and one of aggravated break-in. Lamarre-Condon allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old TV personality Jesse Baird, and Baird’s new partner, 29-year-old Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies, at a house in the Paddington neighbourhood of Sydney in 2024. The bodies of the couple were discovered concealed in surfboard bags in a rural region 200 kilometres away. It is anticipated that the experiment would last for three months.
Prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC explained in his opening remarks on Monday that following a brief romantic engagement, Lamarre-Condon had acquired a “obsessive and jealous infatuation” with Baird. According to Hatfield, it showed up as a “range of compulsive behaviour” and got worse when Baird cut off all communication in November 2023. In the weeks following their breakup, Lamarre-Condon allegedly stalked his ex-lover, messaged Baird using a friend’s phone, and messed with his car, according to the attorney.
