Iran would never “bend the knee” after nearly seven months of war with the United States and Israel, according to President Masoud Pezeshkian, but he is prepared for a diplomatic resolution. He addressed the UN General Assembly in response to US President Donald Trump’s warning to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic if a deal is not made quickly: “The resistance of the Iranian people will only increase in the face of sanctions, increased pressure, increased bullying.”
Pezeshkian further stressed that the US blockade preventing Iranian ships from using a crucial Gulf canal must be lifted as part of any agreement.”We cannot be denied access to the Strait of Hormuz while everyone else benefits from it,” he stated. The US, whose delegation left the room at the beginning of Pezeshkian’s speech, did not immediately respond. “The US president described us as terrorists.” Iran’s president addressed the UN in New York, saying, “We have been victims of terrorism.” Then he displayed a picture of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the nation’s Supreme Leader, who was assassinated in a coordinated attack on his home by the US and Israel in late February.
