NAGASAKI: In remembrance of the atomic bombs dropped on both cities 79 years ago, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr, expressed his honour at being the first to represent the Kingdom at the peace memorial ceremonies this week in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
“Being present at the ceremonies was an honour and a privilege. I’m impressed by how both cities transformed a horrific historical incident involving the destruction of two cities and the deaths of many people into a powerful statement of peace and hope for all people, Binzagr told Arab News Japan.
Binzagr emphasised that eradicating weapons of mass destruction requires global responsibility. He declared, “We must not forget the horrors of these weapons, and we must all work together to eradicate them from the planet without any justifications or exceptions.”
The accounts of loss and tragedy told by the survivors profoundly affected Saudi Ambassador Binzagr during his visit to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He claimed that their tenacity is a potent illustration of both the value of reflecting on the past and the resiliency of the human spirit.
