King Charles and Queen Camilla joined the Trooping the Colour procession to commemorate the monarch’s formal birthday, amid the cheers of the crowd. The King inspected the guardsmen on display as the royal couple travelled in a carriage in the military procession along the Mall and into Horse Guards Parade. Members of the Royal Family, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their kids, joined them.
In addition to the customary pageantry, the Royal Family in the procession wore black armbands as a sign of respect for the victims of the Air India disaster, at the King’s request. At least eight individuals were on the ground when the plane crashed, and 241 passengers and crew members—including over 50 Britons—were killed in the accident. The laid-back ceremony this year felt extremely different from the one last year, and not only because it was sunny instead of raining.
In 2024, Catherine made her first public appearance since receiving a cancer diagnosis at Trooping the Colour, sparking intense excitement in her comeback to the spotlight. She was spotted grinning this year with her kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and seven-year-old Prince Louis, who grinned with his gap-toothed grin while riding in a carriage with his siblings.
