In her first public appearance after relocating to the UK, American television personality Ellen DeGeneres stated that she made the decision to live in England the day after Donald Trump was re-elected as president of the United States. At a gathering in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the comedian and host declared that life “is just better” in the United Kingdom.
Ellen stated that America might still be “scary for people to be who they are” and that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were thinking of getting married again in England following actions taken in the US to revoke the right to lesbian marriage.
She also acknowledged that she could be “very blunt” when discussing the claims of a hostile environment that caused her long-running talk show to cease in 2022, but she dismissed the stories as “clickbait.”
Thanks to her daytime talk show, her sitcom of the same name from the 1990s, presenting the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys, and playing Dory in Finding Nemo, Ellen was one of the most well-known figures on American television for thirty years.
Following the cancellation of her chat show, she embarked on a “final stand-up tour” in the United States in 2024 and subsequently purchased a home in the Cotswolds. This charming and historic region primarily comprises sections of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.
