Greenland Will Become a Part of The United States, According to the New Trump Envoy

After designating a special envoy to Greenland, the large Arctic island he has stated he would want to seize, Donald Trump has caused a new spat with Denmark. The Republican governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, will serve as the United States’ special envoy to Greenland, a semi-autonomous region of the Kingdom of Denmark, according to a statement made by Trump on Sunday.

In a post on X, Governor Landry stated that serving in a “volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the US” was an honor. Copenhagen is furious about the action and has threatened to demand “an explanation” from the US ambassador. The prime minister of Greenland stated that the island’s “territorial integrity must be respected” and that it must “decide our own future.

Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Denmark’s foreign minister, called Landry’s nomination “deeply upsetting” and cautioned Washington to respect Danish sovereignty. He stated on TV2 in Danish: “As long as we have a kingdom consisting of Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, we cannot accept actions that undermine our territorial integrity.” Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the prime minister of Greenland, stated that the region was open to working with the US and other nations, but only based on mutual respect.
