In an effort to cut off Tehran’s financial lifelines during the ongoing conflict, Washington is initiating what it has dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast” against Iran.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described a new, “unprecedented campaign” against Iran and its “enablers” in a press conference on Monday.
He called it an “economic onslaught” with the goal of isolating the Iranian regime.”Every node, facilitator, and network that Iran has used to smuggle oil and avoid sanctions has been mapped by Treasury,” he stated. “Beginning today, the actions of Treasury and other agencies will tighten the noose and block every potential source of revenue that funds the IRGC and the evil Iranian regime.
He went on, “Any organisation that aids in money laundering on behalf of Iran will be eliminated from the US dollar system.” He also mentioned that US President Donald Trump was reaching out to certain international leaders to ask them to cease their cooperation with Iran. The Treasury Department declared on Monday that it had “issued determinations against five critical sectors digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping that the Iranian regime uses to try to prop up its failing economy.”
Bessent stated that Iran now has “a very clear choice” going forward. Total worldwide seclusion and a survival economy, or a return to normalcy with a chance to reintegrate into the world economy.
