Anthropic, a giant in artificial intelligence (AI), has been generating excitement about its planned IPO. It wants to reassure investors that it can make money. ANSA’s income rose by 45% to $16.8bn (£12.7bn) in the three months ending in September, according to the BBC. Like other AI companies, it wants to show it can make a lot of money even as it spends heavily on technology.
It also stressed safety at its event after current and former researchers warned that AI could pose serious, even existential, threats to humanity. This year, Anthropic’s sales have gone up every quarter, from $4.7bn in the first three months to $11.6bn in the last three months.
The company also told investors at the event in its San Francisco headquarters that it had made a profit in the third quarter on an adjusted basis. This accounting method excludes costs that don’t recur.
Investors said they were optimistic about Anthropic’s rapid revenue growth and path to profitability after the event. Beyond profitability, people have also worried about how safe AI models are.
