Parts of a private jet that crashed in Florida and killed all nine people on board may have come off while it was in the air, according to investigators. When the Learjet 60 crashed into a multi-lane highway and detonated upon impact, it was travelling from Austin, Texas to the Bahamas. The 20-year-old co-pilot and a digital entrepreneur and his young family were among those who passed away on Sunday. The massive hole the jet left on the Palm Beach road made it difficult for the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to retrieve the debris, but it stated that meteorological conditions would be a primary focus of the investigation.
At approximately 12:50 local time (17:50 GMT), the jet crashed on Military Trail, a six-lane road with shops and eateries.”Recovering the major wreckage from the impacted crater on the roadway will be our biggest challenge,” lead investigator Tim Monville stated during a press briefing on Monday. According to the NTSB, strong storms caused the crater, which is next to a mobile home park entrance, to partially fill with water. At the time of the collision, there had been reports of thunderstorms and heavy rain in the vicinity. The area’s homes, businesses, and sports grounds were all littered with debris.
