Blackpink’s Jennie’s Collaboration with The Weeknd Breaks Records on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay Chart

In just over a month, Blackpink’s Jennie has achieved remarkable success on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart, going from a narrow entry to one of the biggest hits ever for a South Korean musician. Her collaboration with The Weeknd on the single “One of the Girls,” featured on The Weeknd’s now-canceled TV show “The Idol,” continues to climb the charts, matching some impressive achievements.

“One of the Girls” has now spent six weeks on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart, which ranks the top-performing songs in the rhythmic radio format (including hip-hop and R&B appealing to a broad audience). This achievement ties Jennie with BTS for the third-longest-running hit by any South Korean artist on the Rhythmic Airplay chart. In 2021, BTS’s single “Butter” also had a six-week run on the list.

However, it’s likely that Jennie will soon surpass BTS’s record when Billboard refreshes its charts. While “Butter” dropped off the Rhythmic Airplay ranking after six weeks, “One of the Girls” is currently at a new high, sitting at No. 17 on the chart. With its continued success, it is unlikely to exit the top 40 anytime soon.

The record for the most weeks spent on the Rhythmic Airplay chart by a South Korean musician belongs to Jung Kook of BTS, who recently achieved solo success as a featured artist on The Kid Laroi’s “Too Much” with Central Cee. The track has accumulated a dozen weeks on the chart, although it currently sits at No. 37 and may drop off soon.

Psy ranks second among South Korean stars in terms of the most weeks spent on the Rhythmic Airplay chart with a single hit. His global smash hit “Gangnam Style” spent 10 weeks on the chart over a decade ago.

In the coming weeks, “One of the Girls” is poised to make further chart history, with the potential to remain on the Rhythmic Airplay chart for several more frames, if not months. The single is also the third-highest-rising track by a South Korean artist and has the opportunity to break the all-time record of reaching No. 13, which was set by “Too Much.”
