According to the CEO of the massive gaming platform, parents who don’t want their kids on Roblox should not allow them to use it. In addition to several documented accusations of bullying and grooming, the website, which is the most popular among young gamers in the UK between the ages of eight and twelve, has been plagued by concerns that some children are exposed to explicit or hazardous information through its games.
However, Dave Baszucki, the firm’s CEO and co-founder, emphasized that “tens of millions” of people have “amazing experiences” on the website and that the company is attentive in protecting its consumers.
Mr. Baszucki responded, “My first message would be, if you’re not comfortable, don’t let your kids be on Roblox,” when asked what advice he would give parents who don’t want their kids on the site. That may seem a bit counterintuitive, but in an exclusive interview with BBC News, he stated, “I would always trust parents to make their own decisions.
With more monthly users than the Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation combined, US-based Roblox is one of the biggest gaming platforms in the world. In 2024, over 80 million players played daily on average, with about 40% of them being under the age of 13. About 40 million user-generated games and experiences are part of its enormous empire. The UK’s Online Safety Act, which goes into effect in April, imposes stringent regulations on all tech companies to shield children from online dangers.
