A guy in Texas has been taken into custody on suspicion of purposefully using the “wade mode” function of his Tesla Cybertruck by driving it into a lake. The car was abandoned by the driver and occupants after it took on water and became trapped, according to the Grapevine Police Department, which claimed its officers were summoned to Grapevine Lake in north Texas on Monday to retrieve the vehicle.
According to Tesla’s online documentation, wade mode enables a Cybertruck “to enter and drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks” at a maximum depth of 81.5 cm (32 inches). According to police, the driver was detained on suspicion of driving in a restricted area of the lake and of violating other water safety equipment regulations.
The Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted police in the removal of the partially submerged vehicle from close to the lake’s south bank “The vehicle became disabled and took on water” after “the driver stated he intentionally drove into the lake to use the Cybertruck’s “Wade Mode” feature,” according to the police statement.
