Following a major film workers’ union’s request that its members refrain from working with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh due to his alleged abrupt departure from the upcoming film Don 3, fans of Singh are reacting with disbelief.
When Singh allegedly left the movie, producers had already spent over 450 million rupees ($4.7 million; £3.4 million) on pre-production, according to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), a significant Bollywood workers’ organization that represents thousands of film and television crew members.
FWICE claimed that despite its numerous requests, Singh declined to clarify his stance. The actor has not responded to the controversy, but according to sources, his team questioned FWICE’s jurisdiction to force him to appear before it.
Singh’s team has been contacted by the BBC for comment. The union has decided to issue a “non-cooperation directive” against the actor until he consents to meet with its representatives, according to FWICE president BN Tiwari.”We’ve made the decision to let the industry know that a superstar is not above the rules,” he stated.
Due to Singh’s fame and the success of the Don franchise, one of the most well-known action series in the industry, the move has garnered a lot of attention even if it does not amount to a legal ban.
