According to the State Department, the US has authorised $165 million in arms sales to Israel in order to pay for heavy-duty tank trailers.
The systems come with tool kits, replacement and repair parts, and logistical and technical assistance. It is anticipated that they won’t be delivered until 2027.
The US unveiled a massive $20 billion weapons support package for Israel earlier this year, which included F-15 fighter jets. Similar to the tank trailers, it will take some time for those systems to be delivered, but they won’t have an impact on Israel’s ongoing military operations in the 11-month-old conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
Because of the high number of civilian deaths in Gaza, the Biden administration has had to strike a balance between maintaining its support for Israel and the increasing number of calls from lawmakers and the public to reduce military support there. A delivery of two thousand-pound bombs has been stopped despite Israel’s ongoing airstrikes on densely populated civilian areas in Gaza.
