Les Wexner, a billionaire from the US, has said that he was “naive, foolish, and gullible” for believing Jeffrey Epstein, who is said to have helped him build his wealth. The former CEO of Victoria’s Secret lingerie firm told US senators at the opening of a closed-door deposition on Wednesday that Epstein stole “vast sums” of money from his family when he was serving as their financial adviser.
Wexner, who was giving evidence to a House committee as part of its investigation into the Epstein case, has denied doing anything improper. A 2019 FBI dossier said he might have been involved in Epstein’s crimes, but he was never charged. Lawmakers said the millionaire, who granted Epstein a lot of control over his money, knew about the other man’s misdeeds but didn’t do anything to stop them.
After thousands of documents about Epstein’s wrongdoings were made public, Wexner was called to testify before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee about his contact with Epstein. The committee members went to Wexner’s home state of Ohio to hear the testimony. A representative for the 88-year-old tycoon told the BBC, “Mr. Wexner honestly answered every question the Committee asked him today.”Mr. Wexner said again that he doesn’t know about or take part in Epstein’s unlawful activities.
