An immigration enforcement center in Louisiana is holding an 86-year-old French woman who immigrated to the US last year after rekindling a relationship from the 1960s. Following his mother’s arrest in Anniston, Alabama, earlier in April, Marie-Thérèse’s son from Nantes raised the alarm.
He told the French publication Ouest-France, “They handcuffed her hands and feet like she was a dangerous criminal. The BBC was informed by the US Department of Homeland Security, which is in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that a “illegal alien from France” with Marie-Thérèse’s name had entered the nation in June 2025 and exceeded her 90-day visa. However, Marie-Thérèse was awaiting a green card when she was arrested, according to her son.
After marrying Billy, an American man she had met in the 1960s while he was a soldier serving at the NATO installation in Saint-Nazaire and she was a secretary, Marie-Thérèse’s mother relocated to the United States.
In 1966, Billy went back to the United States. After losing contact, he and Marie-Thérèse married each other in their own nation and had kids. According to Ouest-France, the two reconnected in 2010 and paid each other a visit with their spouses.
