At least eight people have been killed and scores more have been injured as a result of a collision that occurred in Bangkok between a freight train and a public bus. The accident, according to officials from the police and rescue services, caused the fire that devoured the public bus on Saturday.
During the incident, several automobiles in the vicinity were also struck, prompting the rescue and fire departments to respond to the scene. Team members worked to rescue injured victims from the wreckage while firefighters attempted to get the fire under control. The blaze has been brought under control, and crews are currently trying to cool the area, release gas, and continue their search for victims.
The event occurred on Saturday afternoon in the central business district of the city, close to the Makkasan train station. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Deputy Minister of Transport, stated that preliminary reports indicated the bus had stopped on the tracks during a period of heavy traffic, preventing the crossing barriers from closing.
According to him, the train that was transporting containers was unable to come to a stop in time. An investigation into the full reason of the collision is still ongoing, according to the authorities.
