According to a prison consultant familiar with the institution where Luigi Mangione, 26, is being held on suspicion of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, he was be fed Cornish hen on Christmas while he sleeps on a mattress that is only 1-2 inches thick, PEOPLE reports.
Mangione is being imprisoned at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on counts of terrorism and murder in relation to Thompson’s shooting death outside a hotel in Manhattan on December 4. After he refused extradition in Pennsylvania, he was taken to New York on Friday, December 19, after being apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9.
Along with other well-known people like Sam Bankman-Fried, who was found guilty of financial fraud in November 2023, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing numerous sex crime charges, Mangione has been in the MDC since arriving in New York.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Sam Mangel, a prison consultant who works with other prisoners at MDC, described what Mangione’s Christmas in jail would entail. Mangel does not work with Mangione; instead, he talks based on his knowledge of the institution from his previous clients, which included Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon.
According to Mangel, Mangione sleeps on a “at most two inches thick” mattress with a “small bump at the end for a pillow.” Mangione have a Christmas dinner of green beans and a Cornish hen.
