The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has reported the successful launch of its first satellite, “Al Ain Sat-1,” constructed by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), an associate of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The satellite was launched on the Falcon 9 SpaceX rocket, and the center’s ground station successfully received the spacecraft’s initial signal.
On this occasion, Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to His Highness the UAE President and Chancellor of the UAEU, stated that the satellite launch represents a historic milestone for the university. He described it as the result of tireless efforts by a team of academics and specialists working with renowned international scientific institutes.
He highlighted that this amazing achievement is a watershed moment in the university’s road to leadership in scientific research and space sciences, representing the UAE’s wise leadership’s objective of strengthening the country’s role in space exploration and developing innovative technology solutions.
He added, “I express my deepest congratulations to the task team responsible for this victory and wish them continuing success in finishing the mission and achieving its objectives. “Al Ain Sat-1″ will considerably improve our capacity for remote sensing and deliver precise data to help sustainable development projects across various sectors of the country,” Nusseibeh remarked.
