We recently had the opportunity to have a conversation with Aubrey Heldt, about the evolution of the corporate travel industry over the years. As a senior leader, he has been constantly delivering exceptional services in the industry. Currently, as the Managing Director at HTMC by Hariom Travels, Aubrey fosters long-term client relationships and oversees the travel portfolio of the firm. He believes, “The travel experience can be elevated through innovation and operational excellence.”

We started the interview by asking Aubrey Heldt to share the beginning of his professional career and the key moments that shaped his current position.
Aubrey shared, “As I started my professional path in the travel industry with Kanoo Travel, the experience of working for such a well-established regional organization gave me invaluable exposure to the foundations of corporate travel and tourism. Initially, I focused more on understanding the operational side of the business, ranging from client servicing, travel management solutions, to daily mechanics that keep corporate travel running seamlessly. That hands-on experience shaped my approach to leadership and reinforced the importance of service excellence, strong relationships, and adaptability in an ever-evolving industry. This phase of my career proved to be a pivotal moment, as I learned to combine strategic leadership with customer-centric service on a global scale.

Today, I remain focused on elevating the travel experience through innovation, operational excellence, and lasting client relationships.”

He explained, “Currently, I lead as the Managing Director of HTMC by Hariom Travels, where I oversee the company’s overall strategy, operations, and growth initiatives. My role focuses on strengthening our corporate travel portfolio, building long-term client relationships, and ensuring service excellence across all touchpoints.
From business development, financial performance, supplier partnerships, to team leadership, I work closely with our management team to drive efficiency, innovation, and sustainable growth. Additionally, a key part of my responsibility is positioning HTMC by Hariom Travels as a trusted travel management partner by combining personalized service with modern travel solutions and technology.
In addition as a member of the Middle East and Africa Advisory Board of Uniglobe, our Global Travel Network Partner. I ensure to bridge local realities with global standards to deliver safer, compliant and cost effective travel and turn regional complexity into a competitive advantage for clients and the network.”

He mentioned, “Navigating industry-wide disruption during periods of global uncertainty was a major challenge, when travel came to a standstill and client confidence declined, operational pressures increased dramatically.
To overcome this, I focused on three key actions: maintaining transparent communication with clients and partners, prioritizing the well-being and alignment of our team, and accelerating digital and operational efficiencies. Instead of reacting defensively, we used the period to strengthen internal systems, diversify service offerings, and reinforce client relationships.
Another ongoing challenge has been balancing cost control with service excellence in a highly competitive market. We addressed this by implementing smarter reporting tools, strengthening supplier negotiations, and adopting a consultative approach with clients to ensure value without compromising quality.
These experiences reinforced my belief that resilience, adaptability, and clear communication are the cornerstones of effective leadership.”
