A new Federal Decree-law about traffic laws was released by the UAE government. The goal of the Federal decree-law is to stay up with the swift global advancements in transportation.
According to the decree, vehicle classification must be changed to account for the increasing popularity of electric and self-driving cars and personal transportation.
Establishing by Cabinet resolution the terms and processes for self-driving car inspections, licensing, registration, re-registration, and renewals, as well as the workings of contemporary technological trials. Establishing by Cabinet resolution the responsibilities of individuals who utilise personal transportation. Permitting individuals who have achieved the age of 17 to issue driver’s licenses.
Deterrent penalties, particularly when they result in death, include driving while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or psychotropic substances, fleeing the scene of an accident, crossing the road from an undesignated location, or driving in a valley during floods. Prohibiting the transport of hazardous materials or unusual loads except with a Permit issued by the relevant authority.
