Tata Chemicals, one of India’s largest chemical corporations, was requested to leave Kenya after the government said it had not produced enough advantages for the nation. The company has been asked to “pack up and leave” by President William Ruto, who claims that it has been exporting soda ash rather than domestically processing the mineral to manufacture chemicals and glass.
In an effort to increase employment and investment for Kenyans, Ruto announced the government has found new investors to take over the company’s operations. Tata Chemicals stated that it is “committed to constructive engagement through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels to resolve the outstanding matters” and that it respects the government’s ruling. While visiting Kajiado County, the location of Tata Chemicals Magadi’s factory, Ruto made the remarks.
The business, which is a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Tata Group, is located in Lake Magadi, roughly 120 kilometres (75 miles) southwest of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Every year, it exports over 350,000 tonnes of soda ash to markets in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and India.
