According to officials in Ankara on Saturday, Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan wrote to Melania Trump, the wife of US President Donald Trump, urging her to speak with Israel’s prime minister and bring up the situation of children in Gaza. Emine Erdogan said that Melania Trump’s letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month regarding children in Russia and Ukraine had served as her inspiration.
In the letter released by the Turkish presidency on Friday, Emine Erdogan wrote, “I have faith that the important sensitivity you have shown for the 648 Ukrainian children… will be extended to Gaza as well. A request for comment was not immediately answered by the White House.
The world is currently going through a collective awakening, and the acceptance of Palestine has gained international support. Your appeal on behalf of Gaza, in my opinion, would fulfill a historic obligation to the Palestinian people.
The official declaration of famine in Gaza City and the surrounding areas by a global hunger monitor on Friday is expected to spread, increasing pressure on Israel to permit more aid to enter the Palestinian territory.
