The Minister Emphasizes how the UAE can Help Fight Drought

The UAE delegation at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16) is led by Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak.

During the conference, Dr. Al Dahak discussed the UAE’s goal and current drought-fighting initiatives, as well as the importance of creative projects in improving global food and water security and tackling issues of land degradation. The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16), with the theme “Our Land. Our Future,” has begun in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will end on December 13.

“Proactive planning, creative approaches, and cooperative efforts in water management and distribution are necessary for effective drought management,” stated Dr. Al Dahak. Improving water use efficiency and bolstering drought resilience require the adoption of sustainable techniques, such as climate-smart agriculture and rainwater harvesting.

She emphasized the United Arab Emirates’ efforts to improve global water security through programs like the Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative, as well as the country’s National Strategy to Combat Desertification and Water Security Strategy 2036.
