The basis of a minerals agreement between the war-torn nation and the United States has been signed, according to the Ukrainian administration. The statement of intent, according to Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, cleared the path for what she referred to as an economic cooperation deal.
According to her, a final agreement would also include an investment fund for Ukraine’s rehabilitation. U.S. officials said they hoped a deal could be reached by the end of next week. The discussions were momentarily derailed by Donald Trump’s public yelling altercation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House in February.
Her tweet includes images of her and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent signing separately. We are happy to announce the signing, with our American partners, of a Memorandum of Intent, which paves the way for an Economic Partnership Agreement and the establishment of the Investment Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine,” Svyrydenko stated.
Bessent, who stated that the specifics of the agreement were still being finalised, did the signing via an internet call. It’s essentially what we had already decided. When the president [Volodymyr Zelensky] was here, we had a memorandum of agreement. We got right to the critical part, and we’re going to sign what I believe is an 80-page agreement,” he remarked.
