After yet another lottery drawing on Monday night produced no top winner, the Powerball jackpot has exploded to an incredible $1.09 billion. The winning numbers for Monday were Powerball 23 and 19, 24, 40, 42, and 56.
There will be another drawing on Wednesday night. If a player wins the jackpot, they have the option to choose the $527.3 million lump sum (before taxes) or the annuitized option, which pays out an initial payment and the remaining amount over 29 years.
The fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in history is on track to surpass the $1.13 billion Mega Millions prize that a ticket in New Jersey won last week.
On Monday, some people returned home with something. According to the lottery, six participants won rewards worth $1 million, and more than two million others received wins at lesser payout tiers. Three months have passed since the last Powerball jackpot winner. On January 1, the final fortunate winner in Michigan took home a prize of $842.4 million.
There is a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a Powerball prize in any amount, and there is a 1 in 292.2 million chance of winning the jackpot.
